VI. AOC Report (Jane Siling) 

  • 07.12.2023 - Tampa Police Department (One on One - 1); On July 4, 2023, a 7 year old child was shot in the head when caught in crossfire of two subjects shooting at each other. The child died on scene. [#528]
  • 07.13.2023 - Tampa Police Department (One on One - 1); On July 8, 2023, a Tampa Police Corporal responded to a trespassing complaint at the Speedway Gas Station. He encountered a male who was uncooperative, refusing to obey commands and refusing to leave the property after being told he was trespassed. The Corporal attempted to place the subject under arrest but he actively resisted. The subject attempted to injure the Corporal by hitting, punching and finally choking him to the point he felt he would lose consciousness. The Corporal mentally determined he would have to shoot the subject, however he feared that if he activated the retention and pulled his firearm from the holster, then lost consciousness, the subject would have access to the firearm. The Corporal continued to struggle with the subject until help arrived. The clerk from the store assisted with pulling the subject off the Corporal as back p was arriving. The Corporal was transported to TGH with minor injuries and released back to full duty. The subject was subsequently charged with 1st degree attempted murder of a LEO. [#529]
  • 07.17.2023 - Tampa Police Department (One on Ones - 18); Officers responded to an aggravated assault domestic violence in which the male suspect stabbed the female with 2 small children present. Multiple officers located the suspect in a vehicle. After a pursuit, the suspect armed himself with a semiautomatic rifle and pointed it at the officers. Officers fired at the suspect who died at the scene. [#530]
  • 07.19.2023 - Pasco County Emergency Communications (One on One - 1); On July 18, 2023, call taker took a call where the caller's wife was having seizure. The wife had stopped breathing at multiple points throughout the call and the call taker was attempting to manage the heightened emotion of the caller in order to provide life saving instructions for the female. [#531]
  • 07.19.2023 - Tampa Police Department (One on One - 1); On July 17, 2023, there was an officer involved shooting where several officers fired at the suspect. Suspect died at the scene. Refer to IRF #530 for details. [#532]
  • 08.12.2023 - Tampa Police Department (One on Ones - 2); Tampa Police Department officers responded to assist the Pasco Sheriff's Office who were in a pursuit of a vehicle driven by a suspect that had shot at numerous officers. Information on hand indicated the suspect had a firearm and multiple 9 mm magazines in his possession. The pursuit ended within the city of Tampa and the suspect exited the vehicle and began to shoot at officers. Officer returned fire thereby neutralizing the threat. [#533]
  • 08.12.2023 - Pasco County Emergency Communications (One on One - 1); Call taker was on the line with a female when the suspect approached. Caller was heard screaming followed by several gunshots. Caller was shot by the suspect before a vehicle pursuit with deputy involved shooting ensued. [#534]
  • 08.12.2023 - Pasco County Emergency Communications (One on One - 1); Call taker spoke to a domestic violence victim who was coming into Pasco county to retrieve her child. The caller was later shot by the suspect. [#535]
  • 08.12.2023 - Tampa Police Department (One on One - 1);  A Tampa Police Department officer was shot during a pursuit resulting in non-life threatening injuries. [#536]
  • 08.14.2023 - Tampa Fire Rescue (One on Ones - 5); Fatality of a 29 year old female who was 30 weeks pregnant. The deceased was found in home by a 4 year old child. CPR was in progress by the spouse. Obvious signs of a non-recent death. Very impactful call. [#537]
  • 08.31.2023 - Tampa Police Department (One on Ones - 3); Tampa Police officers responded to a house fire with a female inside the residence. Upon arrival, officers attempted to access the interior of the residence but the house was fully engulfed. Officers were unable to get inside. Once the fire was extinguished, the female was located deceased inside the house. [#538]
  • 09.02.2023 - Temple Terrace Police Department (One on One - 1); A Temple Terrace Police Department recruit in the academy left for lunch and was first on scene of a vehicle accident (semi vs. SUV). The SUV had 4 occupants with 3 fatalities (2 adults, 1 child). Recruit rendered assurance to a surviving child 3 years of age. Recruit has children of similar age to the deceased child and surviving child. [#539]
  • 09.01.2023 - Tampa Police Department (One on One - 1); On August 31, 2023call taker handled a call regarding a house fire. A male could be heard yelling in the background and someone trying to help a subject inside. [#540]
  • 09.01.2023 - Tampa Police Department (One on One - 1); On August 31, 2023, a call taker spoke to a driver who had been involved in a vehicle crash with a bicycle. The driver was in shock and spoke Spanish. The call taker was thankful they received the call since they (call taker) spoke Spanish and thus there was no delay in providing assistance. This was the second call they took this evening where someone was deceased. [#541]
  • 08.22.2023 - Tampa Police Department (One on Ones - 2); Members of the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force performed a vehicle box-in on a sedan that was transporting a known fugitive. When officers approached the vehicle, the fugitive (front seat passenger) fired shots at one of the officers. Two Tampa Police officers assigned to the task force returned fire in response to the threat. The fugitive was fatally wounded and succumbed to his injuries on scene. No officers were injured. [#542]
  • 08.30.2023 - Tampa Police Department (One on One - 1); On August 29, 2023, during hurricane deployment, officers responded to a non-breathing child incident. Upon arrival, officers discovered an infant had been swaddled too tightly causing asphyxiation. The infant was rushed to the emergency room where he was pronounced deceased. One of the on-scene officers has a child of like age and was affected. [#543]

   Peer and or Clinical Reviews will be conducted at the November General Meeting. To be eligible, one must have registered on the TBRCIT website, completed the online application and have submitted copies of their certificates for the Assisting Individuals in Crisis and Group Crisis Intervention (or Combined class) to Jane Siling at jsiling@aol.com.
